May AroMagic Kit: Herbs and Oils for success and spiritual development

Our May AroMagic Kit: Herbs and Oils for success and spiritual development is here! AroMagic is my new co-ed course on aromatherapy and herbal magic. Each month, we will learn about two essential oils and two herbs that relate to a central theme. In May our theme is success and  spiritual development. Members will learn not only what the metaphysical properties and uses of the herbs and oils are, but how to use them to make DIY products for at-home use.

This kit is aligned with the herbs and oils we will study in May, our fourth month of class. Aromatherapy is one of my soul passions and talents, and I hope to share it with as many of you as possible. With this listing, you can purchase the herbs and oils we are going to cover in class. Because essential oils come from plants, they carry the energetic properties of the plant they were extracted from. So when you work with these sacred tools, you’re layering the energy of the plant medicine with the magic of aromatherapy. This is where the olfactory system, which is strongly linked to our deepest subconscious, comes in. We can literally tap into our deepest memories through the power of scent.

May AroMagic Kit: Herbs and Oils for success and spiritual development

First, the herbs of May. You will receive one (1) tin each of these loose herbs: chamomile and alkanet root. Now, I can’t reveal too much here because we will be covering these herbs in our classroom in may.

Chamomile (Chamaemilum nobile, Matricaria recutita)

Chamomile, or chamomile, is the name used for various daisy-like plants from the Asteraceae family which are commonly used to make herb infusions that serve a wide range of medicinal purposes. The name itself has a long history as it is derived from the French, which has its roots in Latin, and which ultimately is derived from the Greek ‘khamaimelon’, which means earth apple. Chamomile has been used for centuries primarily in teas. It is effective as a mild, relaxing sleep aid, and can be used to help treat fevers, colds, stomach ailments, and as an anti-inflammatory.

Alkanet root (Alkanna tinctoria)

Alkanet root, or dyer’s alkanet, is an herb which comes from the borage family. It is greatly valued for its roots which are used as a commercial red dye. Although the plant produces bright blue flowers, it is the roots of the plant which have been used as a dye since ancient times. Its name comes from the Arabic ‘alhinna’ or ‘henna’ which itself has been transliterated as alkanet.

Alkanet root has several medicinal properties. It is most commonly used in folk medicine as an effective expectorant to bring up phlegm. It can also be applied topically as an emollient to help soften and soothe the skin and to treat all kinds of cuts, bruises, and phlebitis.

The oils we will work with in May are honeysuckle and opoponax. You will receive one (1) dram each of these oils.

Honeysuckle (Lonicera)

Honeysuckle, also known as lonicera, is a form of arching shrub or twining bine that comes from the Caprifoliaceae family. The name honeysuckle was inspired by the edible and sweet nectar which can be literally sucked from its flowers. It is typically found in several regions throughout the Northern Hemisphere, including China, India, and throughout Europe and North America. Honeysuckles are often prized as garden plants as they rapidly and thoroughly cover walls and outside buildings and because of their sweet, intoxicating aroma.

Honeysuckle boosts the immune system and may even help fight against respiratory infections, colds, flus, and pneumonia.

Opoponax (Commiphora opoponax)

Opoponax is a natural oleo-gum resin much like myrrh or frankincense. The name itself comes from a variety of different sources including the Anglo-Norman ‘opoponac’ and the Latin ‘opoponax’. Opoponax is very similar to sweet myrrh. With its rich, balsamic aroma, opoponax oil is primarily used as an ingredient in perfumery and incense making. However, it does have some medicinal properties as an antispasmodic, deobstruent, and as a concentration aid. Join us in May to learn more about it!
