March AroMagic Kit: Herbs and Oils of Deep Healing

Our March AroMagic Kit: Herbs and Oils of Deep Healing is here! AroMagic is my new co-ed course on aromatherapy and herbal magic. Each month, we will learn about two essential oils and two herbs that relate to a central theme. In March our theme is healing and cleansing across all planes. Members will learn not only what the metaphysical properties and uses of the herbs and oils are, but how to use them to make DIY products for at-home use.

This kit is aligned with the herbs and oils we will study in March, our second month of class. Aromatherapy is one of my soul passions and talents, and I hope to share it with as many of you as possible. With this listing, you can purchase the herbs and oils we are going to cover in class. Because essential oils come from plants, they carry the energetic properties of the plant they were extracted from. So when you work with these sacred tools, you’re layering the energy of the plant medicine with the magic of aromatherapy. This is where the olfactory system, which is strongly linked to our deepest subconscious, comes in. We can literally tap into our deepest memories through the power of scent.

March AroMagic Kit: Herbs and Oils of Deep Healing

First, the herbs of March. You will receive one (1) tin each of these loose herbs: lemongrass and calendula flower. Now, I can’t reveal too much here because we will be covering these herbs in our classroom in March.

For March, I chose lemograss (cymbopogon), a popular herb to work with for magical purposes in both Hoodoo and Mexican Folk Magic traditions. It is also widely used as a culinary herb in Asian cuisines and also as medicinal herb in India. It has a subtle citrus flavor and can be dried and powdered, or used fresh. One of the primary attributes of lemongrass is its cleansing properties. It has a relaxing and mildly sedating scent, unlike other citrus herbs and oils.

And calendula flower (calendula officinalis), is a plant with an interesting history as well as many magical uses. The name of the plant is derived form the Latin ‘calends’ or ‘kalendae’ which is the root for our modern English calendar. Calendula was sacred to the Aztec goddess of love, marriage, and prostitutes – Xochiquetzal. She was also goddess of the land of the dead, which is why calendulas are a popular offering during Dia de los Muertos. Also, calendula was widely used in medicine, cooking, and devotion across the ancient world.

The oils we will work with in February are turmeric and rosewood. You will receive one (1) dram each of these oils.

Rosewood oil is extracted from the Rosewood tree, which Brazil is famous for. These are giant evergreen trees bearing the scientific name aniba rosaeaodora. Rosewood oil is highly sought and rare, and is a potent oil that carries many other beneficial healing properties as well. We’ll discuss rosewood in much detail during March’s class!

Then, turmeric (curcuma longa), a protective and healing. This magically potent remedial spice has been used for centuries throughout China and India. It is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine and practice. The Indian wedding ceremony, haldi, is a beautifying ritual that takes place the day before a wedding, wherein a paste of turmeric is applied all over the bride’s and groom’s bodies.
